Ultrasound Information
By using the sound waves of an ultrasound scanner, a doctor or sonographer can show an expectant mother the first look at her baby while he or she is still in the womb. The technique of limited ultrasound in obstetrics has made it possible to determine your baby's gestational age. Studies have shown that ultrasound is completely safe for your baby.
The procedure of ultrasound is simple and painless: the sonographer places the scanner on the abdomen or in the vagina, and the image of the baby appears on the screen. Although not everyone can interpret the black and white images on the screen, even he untrained eye can see the tiny heart-beat of the developing baby, and see its movements inside the womb. Many times it's possible to see the baby yawning, breathing or sucking its thumb.
Cobb Pregnancy Services administers limited ultrasounds in the first trimester for the following reasons: to confirm that the pregnancy is both viable and intrauterine and to determine a more accurate age of your baby if you are unsure about your last period. |
